Summer Level 1 (ages 5-8)

The KBEP believes that preventing relationship violence starts at an early age. During the elementary school years, students are in the school-aged stage and moving toward early adolescence. We at the KBEP feel that it is at these developmental stages that youth should be familiarized with the relationships they have with themselves and others. Establishing and emphasizing concepts of positive self-esteem, responsibility, and kindness provide the foundation for creating healthy and safe relationships.

Summer Level 1 Objectives

By the end of the program students will be able to:

  • Identify relationships and understand the definition of relationship violence
  • Establish, maintain and respect personal boundaries (both emotional and physical)
  • Recognize what is needed to calm down when feeling negative emotions such as embarrassment or anger
  • Reflect on a sense of self and the importance of being proud
  • Understand kindness, respect, and responsibility

Summer Level 2 (ages 9-12)

The KBEP believes that preventing relationship violence starts at an early age. During the middle school years, students are reaching adolescence. We at the KBEP feel that it is at this developmental stage where youth should be familiarized with the relationships they have with themselves and others. Learning the importance of choosing friends carefully, keeping positive self-esteem, and approaching conflicts productively provide part of the foundation needed to create healthy and safe relationships.

Summer Level Two Objectives

By the end of the program, students will be able to:

  • Identify relationships with self and others
  • Understand the definition of relationship violence
  • Recognize the importance of trust, honesty, and respect between friends

  • Understand the role of assertive communication in approaching conflicts

Summer Level 3 (ages 13-18)

The KBEP believes that the best way to prevent relationship violence is through education on the topic. In high school, students enter a phase in their lives where dating is a priority. We at the KBEP feel that it is at this developmental stage where adolescents should be familiarized with the skills and tools necessary to establish a healthy dating relationship.

By the end of the program students will be able to:

  • Understand the definition of relationship violence
  • Recognize how gender stereotypes can negatively affect self and others
  • Realize the effects of both healthy and unhealthy expectations in a dating relationship
  • Understand that jealous actions are possessive and controlling
